What Kind Of Gas Should I Use?

Photobucket
This is perhaps one of the biggest questions car drivers wonder about. When you go to fill up at the pump, what is the difference in the octane numbers besides the price? Is cheapest really the best?
Photobucket

When you pull up to the pump, the first thing you notice, after the price, are the numbers 91, 88, and 85. Is it okay to just go ahead and get the 85 because it's cheapest?

Here is how you can tell what octane level of fuel you should put into your vehicle:
  • Find the owners' manual for your vehicle. If you don't know where you owners' manual is, you can usually google it and find it online.
  • Turn to the index and find the section on fuel.
Photobucket
  • Turn to the correct section and page. This will tell you what octane gas you should be using. Using anything lower than what is recommended for your vehicle can damage your engine. Every vehicle is different, so make sure you look in your owners' manual and use the recommended fuel for your vehicle.
Photobucket

Your owners' manual was written for your specific vehicle, so following its instructions is always your best option when you have any questions about what type of gasoline to put in it.

What do the octane numbers mean?
The higher the octane level, the slower and more complete it burns, leaving less deposit in the engine.

If you ever have any questions about fuel for your vehicle, you can always call us at (801) 966-6021, or visit us in Kearns at 4261 W 5415 S.

5400 South UDOT Widening Project: We Are HERE TO STAY!

Many of our customers have voiced concern about the future of Gines Auto Service in regards to the widening of 5400 South in front of our shop. We have been at this location since 1978, and look forward to many more years at our Kearns location. We are glad to say that we are here to stay, and don't plan on going anywhere!

The 5400 South widening project will take a small chunk from our front parking lot, which will require a few remodeling projects to our West bays, and relocation of our front sign, but other than that, Gines Auto Service will be functioning as normal as always.

Let us keep up on your maintenance during construction; we will be open!

Thank you for your loyalty, and we look forward to many more years of serving you at our Kearns location! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Thanks!

Mark Gines
Gines Auto Service - owner
