HISTORY OF THE LOGO: Mitsubishi

The name "Mitsubishi" refers to the three-diamond emblem. "Mitsubishi" is a combination of the words mitsu and hishi. Mitsu means three. Hishi means water chestnut, and Japanese have used the word for a long time to denote a rhombus or diamond shape. Japanese often bend the "h" sound to a "b" sound when it occurs in the middle of a word. So they pronounce the combination of mitsu and hishi as mitsubishi.


There are also some alternate interpretations of the logo:

The logo for this successful worldwide Japanese automobile manufacturer is made up of three points that symbolise trust, integrity and openness. The logo is based on the merger of two age-old Japanese dynasties who used a coat of arms with three similar diamond patterns.


Mitsubishi built its first car in 1917. The company itself goes back to 1870, when it built its first ships - the three diamonds represent a ship's propellers.

Fall Leaves In Utah: Our Suggestions

Fall is in full force here in Utah, and we have some of the most beautiful canyons and mountains for viewing the Fall leaves. Below are places that we recommend. The directions on the map are directions from our shop in Kearns.

Butterfield Canyon and Middle Canyon

Mark and Paul highly recommend Butterfield Canyon. Take SR 111 (Bacchus Highway) southbound until you reach where the road turn eastbound. This is where you will turn Right to go up Butterfield Canyon. Zoom out on the map below, and you can also see that this canyon goes over the top of the mountain, into Middle Canyon, and out to Tooele, which is also a favorite spot that Mark recommends.

Mirror Lake Scenic Byway

Scott recommends the view of the Fall leaves on Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. State Road 150 runs along this beautiful route.

Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons

Scott and Paul highly recommend these canyons for viewing the Fall leaves. Little Cottonwood Canyon is the home of Alta and Snowbird, while Big Cottonwood Canyon has Brighton and Solitude.

We can also show you how to check your tires, and how to know how much air your tires need. Just stop in any time, let us do it for you, and also teach you how to know if your tires are low.

Maintaining the proper tire pressure helps with gas mileage, and also helps your tires last longer!

What Is ASE Certified?

You've seen the emblem on our uniforms and in our shop, but what exactly IS ASE Certified, and what is the difference between a regular automobile technician, and those that are ASE Certified?

ASE Certified means that:

• The automobile technicians has at least two years of experience
• The automobile technician has passed a series of tests to become ASE Certified
• The exams are grouped into specialties such as automobile, medium/heavy truck, truck equipment, school bus, collision repair, and more.The exams stress knowledge of job-related skills. The tests are no cinch to pass; in fact, usually only two out of every three test-takers pass on their first attempt. After passing at least one exam and providing proof of two years of relevant work experience, the test-taker becomes ASE certified.
• To remain certified, ASE-certified professionals must be retested every five years

Because the auto industry is always expanding and new technology is always coming out, we require that our technicians become and stay ASE Certified while employed at Gines Auto Service. This is something that we do not take lightly. Being ASE Certified is important for us to make sure that our customers receive the best service they can get.

GETTING TO KNOW US: Chad

This week, we are getting to know Chad! Come in the shop, say hi to Chad, and mention you read his spotlight, and you will receive $5 off your total bill; this week only!

You will find Chad upon entering our shop. He is one of our service advisors. His many years of working under the hood in the shop, and his ASE Certification and continued education is a great benefit to customers calling or coming in with questions about their vehicles. A few customers are known to referring to Chad as "The Car Whisperer". Whenever they call in with questions, he seems to know exactly what they are talking about when describing a noise, and what to do.

Chad started working at Gines Auto Service when he was twelve years old. He started out dumping garbages  and cleaning up the floors after school. He is the son of Mark Gines, owner of Gines Auto Service, and is excited to take the business into its third generation.

As a young boy, he always enjoyed helping his dad work on anything that had an engine. Some of his earliest memories was helping him work on an old green lawn mower they had, and sitting at his work bench setting the gap on spark plugs as he tuned engines up. "Before I was old enough to even go to school, it always made my day when I could come to the shop with my mom to bring my dad his lunch. On those trips I got to see my dad, my grandpa, and my uncles Gary and Ray. I always made sure to jump on the hose that rang the bell for the gas pumps," Chad recalls.

When Chad was fifteen, his dad helped him find a Camaro and build an engine to put in it. They got the engine from a wrecking yard and rebuilt it in their garage at home. Chad drove that car for many years and still owns it today. Chad says, "I was very lucky to have that opportunity, and it was pretty cool having a fast car at age sixteen."

Chad learned his business sense at a young age: "As a kid my dad showed me how to patch the tires on my bike and do general repairs on it. I took advantage of that and charged all my friends to fix their bikes up and that gave me enough money to buy the occasional candy bar at the corner store."

Some of the things Chad enjoys while not at work are hunting, fishing, riding horses with his parents, camping, playing with his gas powered remote control cars, and watching movies.

We are always happy to go over your maintenance schedule

We have said many times, and can never say it enough, that proper maintenance is the best thing you can do for your vehicle. If you properly care for your vehicle by performing regularly scheduled maintenance, you can eliminate approximately 50% of repairs and breakdowns!

As a free service to you, we keep track of your maintenance schedule for you, and let you know what service is due, and when it was last done. We can also send you out email reminders that you have a scheduled maintenance coming up. You always have the choice to perform these maintenance tasks or not, but at least you will know what is due and when.

Because we know that your car is a big investment and you want to get as many miles as you can out of it, we are happy to offer this maintenance schedule as a free service to you! If you ever have any questions on your maintenance schedule, just ask; we are always happy to help!

History of the Logo: Mazda

Mazda Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive manufacturer based in Hiroshima, Japan.It is said that Mazda coincides with the anglicized pronunciation of the founder's name, Jujiro Matsuda, who was interested in spirituality, and chose to rename the firm in honor of both his family and Zoroastrianism. The word Mazda derives from Ahura Mazda, the Avestan language name for a divinity exalted by the ancient Iranian prophet Zoroaster, as the source of wisdom, intelligence and harmony.

The M in the Mazda logo is fashioned like wings to represent flight, and symbolizes Mazda's "flight to the future". The V in the center of the M is spread out like an opening fan, representing  the creativity, vitalty, flexibilty and passion that is Mazda. The dynamic circle symbolises our readiness to spread our wings as we enter the 21st century.

GETTING TO KNOW US: Paul

One of our newer employees, Paul, started working at Gines Auto Service May 2011. He is an automobile technician.

His love of working on cars started early in childhood, as he grew up in a wrecking yard. He was born in Copperfield and grew up in West Jordan. He has lived in Kearns for twenty years. He has three children, four stepchildren, and six grandchildren.

In his free time he enjoys listening to music. He also enjoys reading a lot.

Friday FREEBIE: Shuttle Service

Today's FREEBIE is one of our favorites: our shuttle service.

Did you know that when you drop your vehicle off, we can give you a ride to work, home, the library; you name it! When your vehicle is finished, we can also come and pick you up and bring you back to the shop to get your vehicle.

Just ask! When you drop off your vehicle, ask about getting a ride, and we would be happy to! Some of our favorite times are spent visiting with our valuable customers, and many times this is during our shuttle service.
